THE FOLLOWING, ADDITIONAL LOCAL RULES ARE IN FORCE AT LANGAR MAC (last updated: March 2025):

General

1.1 Langar airfield is constantly active with full size aircraft & parachutists – which ALWAYS have PRIORITY over any model flying activities. Therefore, always be aware of the possibility of conflicts with these & take sensible steps to ensure that THEIR SAFETY IS YOUR PRIORITY!
For all flights over 400ft ensure that the risk assessment and permissions have been read and are complied with. In all flights and especially with those making use of the added height permission, manned aircraft and parachutists must be avoided at all costs. Avoid, land and in extreme cases be prepared to safely ditch the model if needed.

1.2 Due to the full-size activity, you may only fly ‘line of sight’ aircraft. Therefore, no FPV aircraft (including F/W), rotary wing or quadcopters are allowed at Langar. However, this restriction may be waived after approval by a committee member, for example to aid searches using a camera drone. In any such instance, a competent person must maintain line of sight view of the aircraft & stand adjacent to the pilot.

1.3 Flying guests are permitted at Langar only by way of invitation from a club member, with the prior approval of the committee who need name and BMFA number, and then only for a maximum of three times. The inviting member is responsible for ensuring that the guest is fully conversant with all the rules, No-fly areas and has BMFA insurance.

1.4 Short term camping on-site for club members is available. Cost per night (per pitch) is £5 members, £10 non-member. Please advise committee prior to stay so we are aware of who is using the site and ensure payment is arranged.

1.4 If more than 1 modeller is using a 35Mhz radio those modellers should agree a peg system to avoid radio interference.

1.5 All vehicles that enter the site are entirely at their owner’s risk. Langar MAC accepts no liability for damage or loss of any vehicle.

1.6 Do not discuss financial or legal matters with anyone outside Langar MAC, unless the disclosure has been approved by the committee.

1.7 Notification to a committee member must be made of any incident or accident where third party and/or property is involved and must include all details (date, time, nature) of the incident and the names & contact details of any witnesses. Where Mandatory reporting to the AAIB & CAA is required, use the following: AAIB: Telephone 01252 512299 (this is manned 24 hours/day) CAA: Go to https://reporting.bmfa.uk (the reporting form will open automatically).

Ground operations

2.1 Models powered by a .90 two stroke or under, may be started in the pits area, provided they are physically restrained all the time. The model should then be carried to the runway.

2.2 Models over a .90 two stroke glow, models fitted with a petrol engine and turbine models, must be started to the east of the Langar Model Flying Club sign (close to the runway) and must be restrained until reaching the runway.

2.3 When holding a model nose up for a full throttle test, it must be pointed away from the pits.

2.4 To reduce wear & tear of transporting models to/from the flight line, models may be left near the pilot’s box (preferably on the grass area) between flights. Provided that; They will not interfere with any other pilots or flying models & the models are left in a safe configuration. This relaxation is not to be treated as an additional ‘pit’ area.

Flying

3.1 Members who do not hold a Basic Proficiency or an A Certificate & above or have not passed the Large Model Association Proficiency Test, cannot fly alone. They can only fly whilst being supervised at the flight line by a member who has an appropriate Certificate of Competence.

3.2 Flying is ONLY to be carried out from the pilot’s box. With certain models and wind directions, take off can be made while standing on the runway, after informing anyone of your intentions. Return to the box immediately after take-off.

3.3 No more than FOUR models may be airborne at any one time.

3.4 If there are cars or pedestrians stopped at the end of the runway, models shall NOT be flown near or over them (30m/50m minimum separation is required by our Article 16 authorisation), they should be asked to move position as soon as practicable.

3.5 Electric models without Undercarriage can be landed behind the pilot box, on the crops, after informing others of this intention.

3.6 The owner of an aircraft being flown by another pilot at their request, remains fully liable if the aircraft is damaged or destroyed whist under the control of the asked pilot, Langar MAC accepts no liability for damage or the loss of any model under any circumstances.

3.7 Always be aware of the NO-FLY Zone. This protects the pits & the adjacent commercial properties. Models should never be flown close to the adjacent road.

Also, avoid low flying over the CVS car storage (big hangar) and the Gun Club, to the East.

3.8 Avoid going too far to the South – due to the nearby Rainbow Horses/Pegasus Learning Centre site, which is the first settlement. Rainbow Horses/Pegasus Learning Centre is a therapeutic child centre for autistic young people and young people with attachment and developmental trauma & are therefore particularly noise sensitive. Rainbow Horses/Pegasus Learning Centre site.

3.9. Pilots should always have a spotter to look out for walkers, vehicles and parachutists when model flying activities are taking place. It is accepted that on some occasions you may be the only person on site, and this may not be possible. Without a spotter the flight must be limited to models under 7.5kg models, no turbines and not above 400ft. The spotter must be a competent person with experience in model flying activities.

JET TURBINE MODELS

4.1 Any member flying a gas turbine model must have a minimum of a BMFA ‘B’ certificate, or equivalent. Additionally, all Gas turbine models must additionally be operated in accordance with the ‘Code of Practice for the Operation of Gas Turbines’.

4.2 Care must be taken that strong jet efflux is directed away from the pits area.

4.3 At certain times of the year i.e. during very dry periods, or when crops are very dry & ripe, jet models are not to be flown. This will be notified by email, the website & Facebook.

4.4 Jet models should be landed or fly low, ‘normal’ circuits when parachutes are near the airspace.

4.5 Be aware of the amount of space being used when flying turbine models – care must be taken to fly within our flight area and not excessively north (towards the skydiver runway) or south (towards the village)

LARGE MODELS

5.1 Any member flying models weighing over 7.5kg’s must have a BMFA ‘B’ or LMA Proficiency, or equivalent Certificate.

5.2 Any member flying models over 25kg’s must do so i.a.w. the terms of their LMA permission.

HELICOPTERS/ROTARY AIRCRAFT

6.1 Langar MAC is predominantly a fixed wing model flying club, members who also wish to fly a rotary aircraft may do so only on the main flightline and only when this will not interrupt other members fixed wing flying activities.

6.2 Rotary aircraft must only be flown by members with an A or B certificate in the appropriate discipline, unless being supervised by an A-certificate holder

FINALLY

7.1 Membership of Langar MAC is conditional upon members agreeing to and abiding by all these rules. Should a member be seen to operate outside these rules or be disrespectful to others; They may receive a verbal or written warning from the committee & ultimately, their Langar MAC membership may be rescinded.

7.2 In general, A first breach will result in a verbal warning by a committee member. A second breach will result in a formal letter from the committee. A third breach will result in the membership being rescinded. However, should a serious breach occur, or a verbal warning being ignored, the membership may be rescinded immediately & without further warning.
